Former Australian National Futsal rep and Coach Scott Gilligan believes Fiji has the potential to qualify for the Futsal World Championship in 2011.

Gilligan is the country to conduct Futsal Level Two and One coaching courses. He will also be assisting the Fiji Futsal Commission (FFC) in selecting the national squad for the 2010 Oceania Football Confederation Futsal Championship.

The FIFA Futsal development manager says a positive approach by the Fiji Football association towards the shorten code will assist in taking the sport to the next level.

“I believe Fiji has a lot of potential to qualify for the World Championships. Solomon Islands have a head start but the good thing is that Fiji FA is taking Futsal very seriously,” Gilligan said.

The former Australian rep says the week long Level Two coaching course will help the various local coaches update their knowledge.

“Level Two is the next step for the coaches. There will be more principles and defensive approach. Level One was basics,” he said.

Gilligan next week will be in the North to conduct the Level One coaching course before traveling to the western division to help the FFC conduct more trails in selecting the national squad.

FFA Technical Director Saiyad Ali says the selection door was still wide open. He encourages interested players to turn up in the trials.
